Wednesday, October 1, 2008Results Semester 1Okay, back from meeting some of the ZPGYs for dinner just now and with the news that our results are finally out. I did well!
I am definitely thrilled to have done this well. All the effort that I've poured in proved to be worthy of such good grades, I'm actually quite proud of myself. I'm in this habit of pleasing other people, shifting my perspective into theirs in terms of designing for them and what I've gathered from Zhou, is that I should have this sense of designer's pride in my design work and that I should stand up for my own design even if the client/ lecturer doesn't like it. For myself personally, I derive satisfaction from acknowledgment from people who appreciate my stuff, and my usual satisfaction stems from creating something for people which they would like, instead of what I personally adore. I think that's the reason why my classmates classify my work as something very commercial and mainstream. I know it's a bit difficult to innovate if I constantly think within the scope of "what people would like", but I can't help but to practice pragmatism so that people would smile at me and say that I did well. I think it boils down to my own perfectionism that I like things to be good and I heed people's advise very readily. In terms of negative comments, I would cringe at them and let my idea waver. Hence, I'll try my best to please everyone, it's sort of pleasing myself ultimately as a designer. It's a very short reflection that I've done to explain my preference for the perks we get from our own creations. My resolution for semester 2 would be: to bring my works to a higher new level, and to incorporate my personal flavor/ elements into the works that I'm going to do. Nevertheless, regardless of how well- received my designs are, I will still embrace them proudly because it's something that I took pride in creating and being happy doing what I do still matters the most to me. :D You reap what you sow, this is the principle backing me from behind since the beginning of the school term. I shall work harder towards the new term and surpass whatever it is today. Firstly, I need to like get rid of my procrastinating attitude, so as to prevent unnecessary late nights before every submission. But I need not try too hard, because leaving things at the end of the production phase somehow spurs me to work towards my goal more effectively. LOL, I dunnoe, it works for me. Secondly, I need to make sure that I satisfy my working principles all the time. Then again, if trying too hard makes it difficult for me to achieve, I'll remind myself to relax my rigidity a little and start having fun. Lastly, I have to remember that being enrolled into TPDS is not about being in a competition and that I have no reason to vie with anyone for anything. I have to keep everything into my own perspective and remember that I'm there to learn, not to show complacency. There you go, a few things to keep me grounded for the next semester. Whooo hooooo!!! Off I go to sleep, happy hari raya and children's day yo! Tmr holiday, no work!!! YESSA. Speaking of work, I totally abhor my job. I'll tell you why later. Okay, nights. BYE.
